Saturday night 27th. September saw the culmination of
Canowindra’s Food Wine & art event of the year “The
Canowindra Show Case” - A nine course degustation matching
Canowindra wine and food, supported with a wonderful program of
entertainment. Vignerons gave short comments about the flavours
that have been matched to their wine. The MC for the event was
Janice McGilchrist Morning presenter with
ABC Radio Central West. High profile regional chef Michael
Manners joined by a team of 8 chefs, cooks, and caterers presented
9 courses matched by 9 superb local wines. Guest were entertained
by Local folk hero Nerida Cuddy who launched her latest album
“Crazy beautiful world”, Gold winning singer/song writer Brent
Parlane & award winning Jazz vocalist Di Bird with her Band Red
Hot & Blue and charismatic violinist George Washingmachine.
Spokesperson for the event Bob Craven said of the
event. “Canowindra Showcase was received with enormous enthusiasm
by over 100 guests that attended last Saturday night. The enormous
contribution of in excess 40volunteers who helped stage the event
was the secret of its success.Five students from the hospitality
course at Cowra Tafe and four pr students from The CSU School of
communications aided in the meet & greet process and helped
wait on tables. Nine representatives of vineyards and 15 catering
staff plus 8 others who helped assemble the infra worked in a
tremendously cooperative spirit. Bob and Marg Craven and the the
food and wine co-ordinators Trudi Weyman Margaret Wallington want
extend a vote of thanks and congratulate all who contributed to
what has turned out to be a memorable event.”
The program of music was an eclectic mix of local folk,
contemporary, soul, jazz, swing and strings. Canowindra local
singer song writer Nerida Cuddy launched latest CD “Crazy beautiful
world”. Gold Guitar Winning Australian Singer/Songwriter Brent
Parlane made the journey from Melbourne with Guitarist Howard
Malkin. Award winning jazz vocalist Di Bird bought a star studded
line up with her to round out the program. Red Hot & Blue
stalwarts Ed Gaston (upright bass –legend in musical circles has
played with Sarah Vaughn), Ray Aldridge (piano – formerly musical
director at channel 9) & Fabian Hevia (drums &
congas) were joined by charismatic violinist George Washingmachine.
