wits - Robbie Long. From Darwin Festival to Illawarra to Melbourne
Cabaret Festival, it's a circus of comedy, magic and music -
idiosyncratic songs that will make your jaw drop, toes tap and
sides split. Featuring some Matchbox favourites like - My Canary
Has Circles Under His Eyes and an hilarious version of Tom Lehrer's
"Masochism Tango". Stripped back, irreverent and shameless,
Mic Conway and Robbie Long will give you their Blues while taking
yours away.
Fred Smith has now been confirmed in the line up and
that's great- as well as performing in the acclaimed duo Frencham
Smith (with Liz Frencham who is already on the bill) Fred has an
impressive range of overseas acheivements. Included amongst these

Liz Frencham
Liz Frencham is best known through her work on bass and vocals
with the Sydney trio Jigzag. She does most of the vocal duties for
Frencham-Smith delivering songs with a sensitivity and
lion-hearted courage that has made
her one of the most sought-after performers in Australia. Her
assured touch on the double bass brings to the duo real warmth and
solidity.
Embracing her double bass like a lover, Liz invites you along a
journey through a luminous emotional landscape, reassuring you with
a warm, generous voice and a smile which has become her
trademark.
Blue The Shearer of ABC radio fame recently performed at
Folk @ Canowindra to a packed audience - He is the scourge of
politicians whom he dissects with merciless satire, he comments
upon the foibles of our lifestyle and no subject is too trivial to
escape the cutting edge of the incisive Blue mind. From fitted
sheets to chainsaw massacres, from grandkids to macho men, Blue is
in there, making sure that these important things in our lives are
never swept under the carpet. (Russell Hannah, Illawarra Folk Club)

Central west's world music choir Conducted by Arts out West
Executive officer Tracy Callinan - won't it be great to have a
choral element - rumour has it that this choir has some material in
it's repetoire that it shares with Valanga and Andrea Khoza. The
prospect of some african style choral numbers is inspiring.
Not to forget...
Merri-May Gill has rated 5 star reviews and sell-out
seasons at the Edinburg Fringe. “Merri-May Gill is a consummate
performer, captivating, incredibly gifted, possibly insane...She
has shared the bill with the likes of Michelle shocked, Joan
Armatrading and Janis Ian. Merri-May is supported by Fiona
Claus who had great sucess with her debut solo album“Bijoux” in
2008 Fi’s debut single “Come Home” saw her film clip on RAGE and
rave reviews around Australia,.. including SINGLE OF THE WEEK in
BEAT (Melb) and RAVE (Bris) magazines...
Valanga Khoza grew up in a traditional setting surrounded
by lively singing,
drumming and dancing. The Limpopo area is rich in traditional
healers, orators and storytellers, highly respected throughout
Africa. Valanga began working with singer and songwriter Andrea
Khoza 12 years ago. She is a founding member of the highly
acclaimed a cappella group "AKASA". They’re joined by Ian
Blake - Ian Blake's Spirit of Place CD, was released by ABC
music in 1996. His production and sound engineering skills have
earned him a Gold Disc and an ARIA nomination. Mitch Davis from
Orange adds percussion.
Rob Shannon & Veren Grigorov Appear in a new
incarnation as “2 Swing” Both members also play together in the
sensational world music act ‘Arabesk’. Their music has a life of
it’s own, highly original, but somehow it seems so familiar, as it
draws upon rich, deep cultural veins, from the tradition of Django
and Stephane plus strong hints of
India and the Middle East. 2 swing have played regularly in and
around Sydney at the Basement, Soup Plus, The Vanguard, The Opera
Bar, Sydney Town Hall.
Nerida Cuddy
Nerida Cuddy is the founder of Folk@Canowindra. Nerida has been
singing and songwriting for over 20 years. In her view,
there's a richness in the extremes of Australia's landscapes &
experiences that begs to be expressed – and she paints in the vivid
hues of the bush. From the abundance of a country op-shop to the
bitterness of grief; from the hopes & fears of motherhood to
rants against materialism; Nerida's songs celebrate the goodness of
life and the value of the real. With warm vocals, rich guitar and
some catchy crowd-chorus songs; Nerida is enjoyable to listen to.
“She's a composer & musician with not only an ear for music,
but a social conscience and a sense of humour.” (ABC Central
West)
